Early Indicators Staff are Possibly Experiencing Mental Unwellness

Can you recognise the early indicators one of your employees may be experiencing a period of mental unwellness? Here are some helpful insights….

Early interventions get good outcomes! It’s especially true when it comes to managing periods of ill health, breakdowns in workplace relationships, and lack of work performance.

Early indicators an employee may be starting to experience mental ill-health include:

  • Inability to accept others views, opinions, or work methods
  • Lack of personal insight
  • Inability to self reflect
  • Unable to consider how their behaviour has contributed to a situation
  • Lack of ability to understand how others perceive their actions

Other observations that may be a consequence of an individual experiencing a period of mental unwellness include:

  • Performance issues
  • Interpersonal conflicts
  • Formal complaints or grievances lodged by them or against them

It’s important to seek external support if this is not an area you feel comfortable navigating or resolving.  Engaging external support can greatly assist in restoring an individual’s health and well-being, repairing workplace relationships, developing action plans, and supporting the whole team, not just the individual to navigate what can be a stressful time for everyone.
